Welcome to Madley In Bloom

Madley In Bloom is a volunteer group seeking to improve the appearance of the village through planting. Formed in 2022, we're always looking for volunteers who are willing to get involved and help keep Madley blooming! If you'd like to join in, please drop us an email here and we'll get back to you. Alternatively, drop Marcia a WhatsApp on 07966 931 552.

We do meet from time to time, face to face, but much of our communication is via our WhatsApp group, which you’d be more than welcome to join. We also have a Facebook group that can be found and joined here.

We’re made up of local individuals with support from Allensmore Nurseries, Madley Primary School and Madley Plants.

MADLEY IN BLOOM SPRING MEETING, MAY 6TH 2026.

Simon opened the meeting at 6 pm and thanked Marcia for organising everyone and the meeting and Lee for hosting the group in The Cabin. Thanks were also extended to Jack and Allensmore Nurseries, for their generous, ongoing support for Madley In Bloom, and to the volunteers who continue to plant, weed and water the planters and borders around the village. POST MEETING THANKS – to Michele and Simon for their support. Plants will once again be collected and stored at Madley Plants, date to be confirmed.

The group noted that the perennials are doing well and that some tall, colourful planting would be of benefit, especially by the village gates, for an eye-catching display as people drive through. Jack agreed to provide a large range of plants and compost to improve the soil where needed. Suggestions were also made to refresh the border by the shop, which needs plants which will survive the dry conditions and shallow soil mainly impacted by the roots of the large tree.

Some of the planters need attention in regards re-attaching the metal rings and Simon kindly volunteered to do this.

The family of a Madley resident has offered some plants to Madley In Bloom and Susan offered to liaise with the family to obtain these, for planting in the shop border.

A brief discussion was had, regarding attracting more volunteers, to help maintain the planters around the village. Michelle offered to ask two new residents if they would be able to water the planters near Cherry Tree Mews. Simon suggested he ask at the Red Lion whether information could be put on their outside noticeboard. Marcia will put the notes on Facebook, in Tracking the News and on WhatsApp. POST MEETING NOTE – Marcia will produce a notice seeking volunteers and add this to the community noticeboard at the Recreation Ground and Tracking the News.

The meeting closed at 6:30 pm.

PLEASE JOIN US!

If you would like to find out more about Madley In Bloom; if you would be able to occasionally water one of the planters in the village; if you could spare a little time to weed or plant, alongside other volunteers, contact Marcia 07966 931552.

27 March 2025…

Madley In Bloom meeting Wednesday 26 March 2025, 7pm.

Simon thanked Lee for hosting the meeting in the school hall. Further thanks were extended to Jack and Mark, of Allensmore Nurseries, and to all volunteers who plant, weed, water and tend to the planters and raised beds throughout the village. Thanks were also given to Marcia for her co-ordinating of the volunteers and of our meetings. The continued generosity of Allensmore Nurseries, and the support from Simon and Michele at Madley Plants, has enabled volunteers to make attractive floral and planting displays around Madley.

Jack brought a large selection of plants to the meeting, to encourage discussion and inspiration for the next round of planting out. Volunteers discussed the current state of the planters and beds, and the consensus was that many of the plants from last year were thriving. Bulbs were also blooming, with tulips and pansies still to come through. The meeting agreed to retain the original Madley In Bloom colour scheme, whilst choosing plants that are suitable for the location of the planters. Some planters also need taller plants, so that they are more easily seen at a distance. Jack agreed to provide fresh compost and a selection of plants, to augment the current growth. These will be delivered to Madley Plants, for collection and planting out by volunteers. Later into the spring, further plants can be added to the perennials, such as bedding and annuals.

Following a recap to ensure that all planters were linked to a volunteer(s), Marcia agreed to send out an invitation to other members of the community to join the group. Many people have recently moved into the village, and they may be unaware of Madley In Bloom.

The meeting closed at 19:45.
